Space Marine 2 will nerf a popular weapon in the next patch – will they nerf the fun out of the game?

In Space Marine 2, one weapon is particularly popular with the community. However, the next patch is supposed to make the weapon a little worse.

Which weapon is it? The melta rifle. This is a short-range thermal weapon that plays a bit like a shotgun – but instead of shotgun ammunition, the melta rifle shoots flames.

You can use the melta rifle on the tactician and the scout. The multi-melta is also available on the destroyer.

The melta rifle has various strengths and is highly valued by the community for this. It can stagger enemies with one shot, causes decent damage and is very suitable for add-clears due to its spread effect.

However, according to the developers, a different strength for the weapon was not planned. The next patch should therefore remedy this.

A special feature of the melta rifle was only a bug

As the developers announced in a question and answer session, the melta rifle currently benefits from a bug (via focus-entmt.com). This error allows players to heal themselves beyond their actual life (keyword: overheal) when they eliminate enemies.

How is the weapon degraded? Since the melta rifle’s overheal effect was not planned and is just a bug, the developers want to fix the error in the next patch.

Developers have initial plans for balancing updates

Do they take the fun out of the game? No! The developers have not announced any nerfs for the melta rifle. They just want to patch the bug – even though this will of course make the weapon worse.

If you’ve played Helldivers 2, you might be worried that the developers are overdoing it with nerfs. With Helldivers 2, even the game’s director believed they were patching the fun out of the game. This was considered a problem with the shooter for months and has now been addressed with a major update.

The team behind Space Marine 2 apparently wants to take a different approach from the start. The developers announced that instead of nerfing the melta rifle, they will be reworking the enemies. They feel like bullet sponges on higher difficulty levels and that is the main problem with the bolt rifles. The developers are therefore testing how they can adjust the enemies so that bolt rifles feel better.

The next patch of Space Marine 2 will also include an adjustment of the AI companions. There is a reason why they act quite passively, but the developers are still unhappy with the bots: The bots in Space Marine 2 are intentionally bad to make you feel better
