Space battle in EVE Online destroys thousands of euros

In a space battle of the MMORPG EVE Online, 6,000 players fought and destroyed in-game resources worth several thousand euros.

What is EVE Online? EVE Online is a subscription-based sci-fi MMORPG from Pearl Abyss (formerly CCP Games) in which all players play on the same server and colonize space with numerous planetary systems.

There is no clearly defined game goal in EVE Online. First and foremost, players pursue the further development of their own character and the accumulation of personal in-game wealth. The focus on the game’s market system and economic trading is correspondingly large.

What was that battle? In EVE Online there are always huge space battles in which thousands of players clash. In recent events, the “Imperium” fought together with the troops of “B2” against “Fraternity”, “PanFam” and “Winter Coalition” in the system X47L-Q.

Approximately 6,000 players were involved in the 13-hour battles. Also, one trillion ISK (EVE’s in-game currency) worth of in-game resources were destroyed.

And that’s a wrap for X47L-Q!

13 hours, 1 trillion ISK destroyed, ~6000 pilots, 3600 killmails, and one reinforced Keepstar.

Great fight from both sides in what was a remarkably even ISK trade. We’re on the edge of our seats to see what happens Monday!#Tweetfleet #EVEOnline pic.twitter.com/nt0qPDGA0z

If EVE players want to buy the in-game currency outside of the game, they currently pay around €40 for seven billion ISK (via playerauctions.com). Extrapolated to the resources destroyed during the battle worth one trillion ISK, players would have to invest almost 5,500 euros to compensate for the damage.

Huge battles are not uncommon in EVE Online, however. Already a few weeks ago, 6,000 players were fighting in EVE Online in the “X47L-Q” system. However, the biggest battle of the MMORPG so far is still unmatched. In 2020, around 8,000 players are said to have been involved in a fight.

By the way, the developers of EVE Online have announced a new AAA game. However, that didn’t sit well with the MMORPG’s players because it’s said to use controversial technology.
