Impeached president in South Korea Yoon Suk-yeol plans to attend a court hearing on Saturday where the authorities will seek an extension of the detention. His lawyer told about it.
The court is scheduled to issue a decision on the matter on Saturday or Sunday.
The original order allowed him to be detained for only 48 hours, but the new order would possibly extend this by 20 days.
Yoon was arrested earlier this week from his official residence, where he had been holed up for weeks. A total of thousands of police officers participated in the arrest. During the interrogations that followed his arrest, Yoon exercised his right to remain silent.
Yoon declared a state of emergency in the country in December, which plunged the country into political chaos. He is accused of rebellion because of the events.
