The parliamentarians of South Korea’s conservative ruling party have decided to oppose the impeachment of the country’s president, the news agencies AFP and Reuters report.
South Korea’s opposition parties previously said they would impeach the president.
In the impeachment motion seen by news agency AFP, it is stated that President Yoon violated the constitution with the state of emergency he declared. According to the opposition, the president’s declaration of a state of emergency was an illegal attempt to avoid criminal investigations involving him and his family.
Yoon declared a state of emergency in the country yesterday, which was only valid for a few hours.
Yoon’s own conservative party also thought the president’s actions were wrong.
