South Korea’s opposition leader Lee Jae-Myung has been stabbed in the throat while speaking to journalists in Busan, Yonhap news agency reports.

Lee had visited a construction site and had just arrived at the press briefing when a man suddenly approached him and lunged and stabbed him in the throat.

Lee was then seen falling to the ground as people ran to help him. Police and onlookers are said to have wrestled down the suspected perpetrator, who according to Yonhap has been arrested.
