South Korea will host a meeting on Tuesday to which it has invited high-ranking diplomats from Japan and China, the country’s foreign ministry announced.

The meeting between the three parties is seen as an attempt to mitigate China’s dissatisfaction with the US deepening its security cooperation with Japan and South Korea.

As the nuclear threat from North Korea has become increasingly apparent, South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol has made sure to get even closer to the United States, which has long been an important ally.

At the same time, he has taken steps to bury the hatchet with Japan. South Korea has also conducted joint military exercises with the US and Japan, something that has angered North Korea.

At Tuesday’s meeting, the diplomats will examine what opportunities exist for cooperation between Seoul, Tokyo and Beijing and also discuss whether to once again organize summit meetings between the three countries.

The last time a meeting of this type was held was in 2019.

China is South Korea’s largest trading partner – and at the same time North Korea’s most important ally.

The Chinese regime recently sent delegates to Pyongyang who attended the closed dictatorship’s military parades.
