After a not very summery start to the summer in terms of weather, a large part of France has been experiencing a heatwave since Sunday. While a large part of the country was on orange heatwave alert for the first part of the week (47 departments on Tuesday and 41 departments on Wednesday), Météo France is maintaining this Thursday only 13 departments in the south-east on orange alert and 11 departments on yellow heatwave alert. Although it was intense, the heatwave was short-lived. After an initial drop in temperatures for part of the country on Thursday, a second, more widespread one is expected from Friday.
This Thursday, high temperatures are still expected, especially “near the Mediterranean including Corsica”, where “they will even increase with temperatures between 36 and 40°C” warns Météo France. At the hottest part of the day, 36 degrees are expected in Corsica, 35 degrees in Gap, Montélimar and Perpignan, 34 degrees in Montpellier, 30 degrees in Lyon, 29 degrees in Alençon, Bordeaux, Limoges, Marseille, Nantes, Nice, Paris and Toulouse. In the north, northwest and east, temperatures will be seasonal. 28 degrees in Rennes and Rouen, 26 degrees in Amiens and Lilles, 25 degrees in Cherbourg and Metz, and 24 degrees in Brest and Strasbourg.
However, peaks will have reached 40°C this week, particularly in Gironde, in some of the departments of the Mediterranean basin or in Deux-Sèvres. On Monday, Météo France was able to record at the hottest time of the day: 40.9°C in Grospierres in Ardèche, 40.6°C in Moules-et-Baucels in Hérault, 39.6°C in Villaries in Haute-Garonne, 39.4°C in Brive in Corrèze, 38.9°C in Auch in Gers, 38.8°C in Bordeaux (Gironde) or 38.7°C in Orange in Vaucluse.
