South Africa: tensions around Putin’s possible arrival at the BRICS summit

South Africa tensions around Putins possible arrival at the BRICS

South Africa is continuing its preparations ahead of the BRICS summit in Johannesburg from August 22-24. This week, a first gathering of the bloc’s political parties and those considered “allies” by the ANC is planned. But the main outstanding question is whether or not Russian President Vladimir Putin will come, under an international arrest warrant. An arrest on South African soil would amount to a “declaration of war” for President Cyril Ramaphosa.
