Very dependent on coal, South Africa created a surprise, during COP26 in Glasgow in 2021, by announcing a partnership with Germany, France, the United Kingdom and the United States to decarbonize its energy. This partnership for an energy transition was supposed to help the country reduce its consumption of this fuel. How can we explain then that the country is taking a diametrically opposite trajectory?
