At least five rockets have been fired at a US military base in northeastern Syria, Reuters reports, citing two Iraqi security sources.

According to the sources, the rockets were fired from the town of Zummar, which borders Syria. It is the first attack on a US military base since early February, writes Reuters.

The information comes after an explosion occurred at a military base in southern Iraq during the night of Saturday. The base includes forces from the former pro-Iranian paramilitary group Hashed al-Shaabi, now part of the Iraqi army.

Parts of Hashed al-Shaabi participated until February in drone and rocket attacks against US forces in Iraq, according to Reuters. One person was killed and several others injured in the explosion, according to Hashed al-Shaabi.

The US command center for the Middle East, Centcom, wrote on X that the US had not carried out any attacks at the time of the explosion.

According to Iraq’s security services, there were no drones or fighter jets in the air at the time.
