At least nine Yemeni UN employees and several other people have been detained by the Houthi movement in Yemen, according to regional representatives who choose to remain anonymous.

It is also likely that more people working for aid organizations have been abducted.

The UN has not initially commented on the information, nor has the Huthi movement.

The Iran-backed militant Houthi movement controls large parts of Yemen, including the capital Sanaa. The war, in which over 150,000 people have lost their lives, has also led to one of the world’s biggest humanitarian crises.

Since November, the movement has carried out repeated attacks against mainly Western merchant ships in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.
