Sotkamo’s Jymy out of the medal games – Joensuu’s Maila broke the unimaginably long streak of the “golden train”

Sotkamos Jymy out of the medal games – Joensuus Maila

Sotkamon’s Jymy was left out of the medal games last time 23 years ago. During its history, it had missed the quarterfinals only twice in the playoffs.

There was a big surprise in the men’s Superpes on Tuesday, when Sotkamon’s Jymy missed the quarterfinals without a single win. Joensuu’s Maila won the decisive game 2–0 (1–0, 2–1) and the match series cleanly 3–0.

Sotkamon’s Jymy bowed to Joensuu because of his weaker inside game. It scored just two runs in three matches.

– This kind of season and ending naturally leaves a lot in the tooth. No one wants this kind of ending, especially with a show like that. I would have accepted if we had played well and the guy only better, Sotkamon Jymy’s hitter joker Roope Korhonen says to .

– After a good series and five games, it would somehow be easier to accept a loss, but we didn’t get anything done. Yes, this left a very bitter taste, Korhonen continues.

Thus, Sotkamon’s Jymy was left out of the medal games for the first time since 1999. In the history of playoff series played since 1987, Jymy has only missed the quarterfinals in 1989.

However, this is the first time that Jymy bowed out in the quarterfinals without a single win. With the loss, Jymy was only left without a SM medal for the third time in the 2000s.

Väliaho silenced Hiukka’s stadium

Joensuu Maila’s clean 3–0 win can be considered a sensation. Called Kainuu’s golden train, Jymy has achieved 12 SM golds, six silvers and two bronzes in the 2000s alone.

– We played at a good level all the time in the away game. and inside we were able to make most of the situation. Jymy was a bit weak inside. Partly our goodness, but there must have been something else. I can’t say what, JoMan locker Ville Väliaho says.

Väliaho, who silenced the small baseball stadium, was one of JoMa’s heroes. The victory was special for him in the sense that Aapo Komulainen ousted him from Jymy lukkari’s plot in the second season. In the end, Väliaho’s contract was canceled at the end of the season and he moved to Joensuu.

– If this had happened last year, it would have felt even better for that reason. I didn’t have such a big thing for this year that this is Sotkamo, Väliaho spins, but adds:

– It does feel good. It was great to show the messy audience that they still know how to lockpick here too.

The 26-year-old striker says that he has succeeded in many situations against Jymy. He managed to implement exactly the things that had been planned before the series.

– I am satisfied with my own performance. The last game was a bit weaker, but in the decisive moments I was the man in place, Väliaho stated.

The ketchup bottle didn’t open

The low-running struggle did not offer many take-home situations. Joensuu Maila won the first period by only one run, when Juho Toivolan the button went home Samuel Tirkkonen.

In the second episode, Jymy got his running account opened when he returned to the assembly Lauri Rönkön space brought Joni Rytkönen home nest.

However, it remained the only run of the Sotkamo people, as Joensuu kept Jymy in check after this.

At the beginning of the next inning, Joensuu built a fireless starting situation, which Henri Litmanen used the second half with his breakthrough. When Patrik Wahlsten later sent home Litmanen, JoMa took a 2–1 lead. Jymy never recovered from this.

– Overall, we had quite a few chances in the three games. At no point were we able to pressurize. If we had gotten successes from those situations, it would have turned around a bit. It would have required that, but the ketchup bottle was never opened, Korhonen regretted.
