Sotkamon’s Jymy is celebrating the men’s Finnish baseball championship for the second year in a row. Jymy decided the championship in periods 2–0 (5–4, 1–0) and won the championship cleanly with 3–0.

The Finnish championship is already the 21st in Jymy’s history. Game director for Kouvola’s Ballonlöji, who previously won two SM silvers To Iiro Haim however, the championship was the first on the horizon.

In Sotkamo, all game directors have been able to achieve the championship. Haimi joins this group.

– Yes, it has been mentioned quite a few times since autumn, but it has not affected my own activities, Haimi told Urheilu.

– I have tried to do things as well as possible. Good team and the best possible prize.

A stray throw solved the problem

Haim’s attacks at the beginning of the game paid off and Jymy won the opening period in heavy rain. In the second period, the rain eased, but the indoor game of both was jammed.

The only run was seen on a stray throw, when Jymyn’s super fast Elmeri Purmonen homered in the third inning.

– The second period was what we would have expected due to the rain in today’s game. Periods won by not many runs, Jymy’s captain Aapo Komulainen inch.

Even the surprise runs weren’t enough

Unlike previous matches, the match started under Jymy’s command. Sotkamo’s game manager Iiro Haimi attacked successfully in the opening period and the team already took a 2–0 lead in the first inning. Manse PP managed to rise to the levels, among other things, by surprise Konsta Hyötyläinen with punches.

In the end, however, Jymy won the opening period with the successes of the last inning. Initially Hannes Pekkinen punctured the second side and Iivari Vihanto pinking straight from the second all the way home. Later Roope Korhonen the blow was enough to bring Pekkinen home when Tomi Lehtonen weighed the throw in the outfield a little too long.

Manse PP’s game manager Jani Komulainen gave credit to the opponent. According to him, Jymy played his best match of the series.

– We should have been able to do better. The margins were small. A couple of punts in the outfield that turned into runs. On the other hand, we had the ball in between three times and the guy didn’t move home from three. They translate such things, Komulainen regretted.
