Sörmland leisure politician in fraud-linked companies – resigns after SVT’s review

The leisure politician has, among other things, a board position in a municipal company and also sits on the board of the workers’ municipality.

In the past years, she has had a number of involvements in companies that can be connected in various ways to fraud and crime.

  • In 2022, she joined as a deputy in a company that the Swedish Tax Agency has singled out as participating in the VAT carousels in Sweden’s biggest fraud ring, the mobile phone ring.
  • In the same year, she joined another company which, according to a police investigation, was used for a car rental in connection with a serious crime.
  • Less than two weeks before she joined the municipal company, she left a company run by a person who today stands accused of serious fraud (see fact box).
  • She has also sat in a company with connections to the high-profile sale of sleeping pills in gummy bears, which was banned by the Swedish Medicines Agency.
  • “Acted bull and goalkeeper”

Anders Björkenheim, fraud prevention expert, is very critical of her role.

    – I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw that the person was allowed to sit on the board of a municipal company. She has acted as a bully and goalkeeper for criminal actors.

The woman herself tells SVT that she was not aware of any frivolous activities in the companies, and explains that she joined the companies because she was asked by a friend.

    – If there have been frauds, I have been deceived.

    “She’s ashamed”

The Social Democrats’ ombudsman in Sörmland, Tommi Lycke, wrote on Thursday morning to SVT that the information would be investigated by the local S organization.

At lunch, the news came: The politician is leaving all his assignments.

    – We have spoken to her and she tells us that it feels like she has been drawn into something she was not aware of. She is ashamed of what happened and will resign from her duties within the municipality, says the S-chairman of the relevant municipality.
