Sörenstam after the golf bomb: “Shocked”

Sörenstam is at Ullna as the poster name for this week’s European tour competition Scandinavian Mixed. When she met the press the day before the competition, however, most of the talk was about the news that rocked the golf world on Tuesday.

The Swede, the world’s best women’s player of all time, was shocked. Not least, she was surprised that the various parties have come to an agreement so quickly.

— In the future maybe (I could see it happening). But not within a year, considering all the comments you’ve heard and all the strict rules that have been put in place. That’s what I mean by shocked, I’m really surprised, says Sörenstam.

“Is not healthy”

She stated at the same time that, just like everyone else, she does not have a full grasp of what the collaboration entails.

— Then we’ll see what this means for the future. I think we all care about golf in different ways, it is not healthy to have a lot of organizations that agree with each other here and there, she says.

Several PGA Tour players have been loyal to their tour, which is now reaching out to the Saudi-backed tour that this year has been seen as the big enemy.

— How are they going to make this work, when everyone is supposed to be happy now? There were several who were loyal to the PGA Tour, they are still loyal. But then you can think, how can you just jump in and out?

“A bit boring”

The competitions at Ullna start on Thursday and Sörenstam obviously hopes to focus more on it in the coming days.

— If I remember correctly, it was last year when we played (in Halmstad) at the same time as their (LIV tour’s) first competition. Then we thought it was a bit of a shame that it stole attention from our competition.

— Now we come here twelve months later, and then it takes the attention away from our competition again. It’s kind of boring that way.
