After swimming in the first semi-final heat, she had to nervously look at the second to see if her time would be enough for a final place.
1.06.30 was the time that was finally enough and it will be her first World Cup final in long distance. In the short course, she has an individual World Cup silver in the distance that she took in Abu Dhabi last year.
– It is my first World Cup final individually and it is more prestigious in the long run. The last two World Cups have been a big disappointment for me, says Sophie Hansson.
Now she aims to be involved and fight for the medals.
– There is still a lot to work on, but it was better than this morning. If I can take it one step further and cut three to four tenths, I will be fighting for medals as I want.
She came third in her heat behind Italian winner Benedetta Pilato and Japanese Reona Aoki.
The final place came about half an hour after big sister Louise Hansson finished fourth in the 100 meter butterfly.
Sophie Hansson swims final on Monday.
One who, however, did not advance to the final was Hanna Rosvall – despite a personal record of 1.00.76 in the 100 meter backstroke.
– It’s great fun to beat pers in a World Cup semi, so I’m happy, she says to SVT.
Rosvall was seventh in his semifinal heat and had the fourteenth best time overall.
