Sony won’t share PS6 details with Activision

Sony wont share PS6 details with Activision

If Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision does happen, Sony will not share details of its next game console, PS6, with the company.

Microsoft’s Activision Blizzard acquisition isn’t just based on CoD games. On the other hand, it also affects the next PlayStation console that the company is developing. In order to develop console games, technical details need to be shared with companies. However, if the acquisition does happen, Sony will not share PS6 details with Activision in order to protect the security of the information.

Sony won’t share PS6 details with Activision if Microsoft’s acquisition happens

to the US Federal Trade Commission (via Eurogamer), PlayStation boss Jim Ryan confirmed that he would not risk sharing console details with his rival. “Sony could not afford to risk access to this information by a company owned by a direct competitor,” he said.

Sony also complains that game development will be interrupted because it “can no longer share confidential details about its next console in development.” However, he worries that Activision Blizzard won’t be willing to develop PlayStation-only features in its games, such as the use of DualSense’s haptic feedback if it’s owned by Microsoft.

The impact of Microsoft’s acquisition seems pretty obvious. If PlayStation refrains from sharing PS6 details, it will severely hamper Activision Blizzard’s efforts to develop games for the console, if not completely eliminate it. Unfortunately, we are faced with a situation where players will be directly affected by both results.
