PlayStation canceled the PSN account connection requirement planned for Helldivers 2. As a result of the players’ reactions, a step back was taken.
PlayStation confirmed that it has canceled the ‘PSN update’ planned for Helldivers 2, which received great reactions from PC players. This update would require PC users to create a PlayStation Network account and link it with the game in order to continue playing the game. This obligation would affect players in countries where the PlayStation Network service is not offered, preventing them from playing the game.
PlayStation Cancels Mandatory PSN Link for Helldivers 2
PlayStation announced in a statement on Twitter that, taking into account the feedback of the players, it has removed the account connection requirement that will be implemented on May 6. “Helldivers fans – we’ve heard your feedback about the Helldivers 2 account linking update. The May 6 update, which will require Steam and PlayStation Network account linking for new players and existing players starting May 30, will not proceed,” the statement said. Additionally, PlayStation representatives emphasized the importance of gamers’ voices by stating, “We are still learning what is best for PC gamers, and your feedback has been greatly appreciated.”
Unfortunately, this incident damaged Helldivers 2’s reputation, and on Steam the game faced an ‘Overwhelmingly Negative’ rating, with over 100,000 negative reviews. Although the game has been a huge success since its release in February, recent events have negatively affected the overall sentiment towards the game.
