Sony is said to be working on native PS3 backwards compatibility on the PS5. Being able to play old games on modern consoles will be a great development for gamers.

According to recent claims from a respected insider, Sony, PS3 backwards compatibility feature, Sony could be working on a solution to make PS5 games playable natively on PS5 consoles. The PS5’s lack of backwards compatibility has been a constant source of criticism, especially since most games from previous PlayStation generations (excluding the PS4 era) are unplayable on PS5. However, if this rumor is true, Sony could fix this major flaw by providing native support for PS3 games on PS5.

PS3 Backwards Compatibility Coming With Native Support?

While Sony occasionally adds older PlayStation games to the PS Plus Premium Classics Catalog, the PS5 still lacks backward compatibility. The vast majority of PS1, PS2, PS3, PSP, and PS Vita games are not playable on modern PlayStation platforms. During the podcast, a chat member brought up the idea that the frame rates and resolutions of PS3 games could be increased on the PS5. However, Shpeshal_Nick stated that he was not entirely sure of the details.
