According to the leak, Sony will soon be introducing new headphones for the PS5. For MeinMMO editor Benedikt Schlotmann, a great wish could come true. Because Sony is no stranger when it comes to headphones.
According to rumors and leaks, Sony, the company behind the PlayStation, is developing a new wireless headset and earphones for the PS5. This is reported by Insider-Gaming.com. Both should appear between April 2023 and March 2024 and expand the portfolio around the PS5.
So far there are no official in-ear headphones for the PS5 and other devices can only be connected to the console indirectly or with their own adapter. But the leak that Sony proposes in-ear headphones for the PS5 gives me hope.
6 secret features of the PS5 that you should definitely know
Sony already has a pair of the best in-ear headphones out there
How is the market currently looking? With the “Sony WF-1000XM4”, Sony already has one of the best in-ear products on the market and with Bose, Samsung and Sennheiser it only has three other major competitors in the upper price segment.
Sony has built a strong headphone image in the past. The colleagues from Hifi.de, for example, praise the current WF-1000XM4 for its dynamic, balanced and very fine sound. The colleagues from GameStar also count the in-ears among the best that you can currently buy.

What would I wish for? If the developer now puts exactly these strengths into a product for the PS5, Sony would fulfill a big dream for me. Because really good in-ear headphones, which are also fully compatible with the PS5, are currently missing.
The only sensible alternative is currently the EPOS GTW 270 Hybrid (for testing), which offers its own wireless adapter.
Other in-ears like the Sennheiser Momentum 3 TW or Bose’s QuietComfort Earbuds II are really great, but so far they don’t offer the compatibility that I would like for the PS5. Now, with official headphones for the PS5, I could get in-ear headphones that could offer really good sound.
If Sony doesn’t end up considering “just” developing a gaming product that doesn’t come close to the great sound quality of the in-house products.
