Sony is in talks with a company that develops software for optical sensor camera and head tracking for PS VR2 technology.
Sony announced last year that they are working on a virtual reality glasses for PlayStation 5. A company specializing in eye tracking technologies. Tobii, Sony has announced that it is in talks with Sony Interactive Entertainment to become the new eye tracking technology provider for the PS VR2. Tobii did not disclose the financial details of the deal at this time as negotiations continue.
What does the current conversation mean for Sony PS VR2 technology?
Tobii is a company that currently sells eye and head tracking cameras. Using a special infrared optical sensor to track users’ eye movements, the cameras are supported in more than 50 games, including Far Cry 6 and Flight Simulator. The firm is also making a PC application that monitors head movement on compatible gaming laptops and allows users to manipulate in-game cameras. In this case, it is estimated that Sony is mainly in talks with Tobii for optical sensor and software support.
PS VR2, which is stated in the first statements that its controllers will contain DualSense features and will focus on ergonomics, will offer an OLED screen with a 110-degree viewing screen, 2000×2040 resolution per eye and 90/120hz frame rates. The release date of the device has not been clarified yet.
