According to the statement, Sony has made another one billion dollar investment in Epic Games. The company has previously invested in the company, which has important brands such as Fortnite, Epic Games Store and Unreal Engine, in different periods.
Sony invests another $1 billion in Epic Games
Sony previously bought Epic Games shares with an investment of $ 250 million in July 2020 and $ 200 million in April 2021. After these investments, it was shown that the already strong cooperation between the two companies was carried forward. Following this investment, Sony CEO Kenichiro Yoshida made the following statements; “As a creative entertainment company, we are excited to invest in Epic to deepen our relationship in the metaverse, a space where makers and users share their time. Additionally, Epic’s expertise, including its powerful game engine, is coupled with Sony’s technologies to improve digital experiences. and we’re confident it will accelerate our various efforts, such as our virtual production initiatives.”
Apart from this investment, it was announced that Kirkbi, which also owns the Lego brand, invested in Epic Games. The company has made a billion-dollar investment just like Sony. Sony held 1.5% stake in Epic Games with its previous investments. The share ratio after this new investment was not disclosed.
