Sony Interactive Entertainment President and CEO Jim Ryan announced that he will resign in March 2024. In a post announcing his retirement, the manager noted that home life and balancing life in the UK was becoming increasingly difficult. Ryan had been with Sony since 1994, before the first PlayStation was even released. He helped establish the company’s presence in Europe and held various roles before becoming CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment in 2019.
Jim Ryan resigns after long term
Sony Interactive Entertainment launched the PlayStation 5 console under the leadership of Jim Ryan. The company had difficulty producing a sufficient number of consoles due to component shortages during the height of the pandemic. Despite this, it still managed to meet demands by increasing production. Sony shipped 3.3 million PlayStation 5 units in the first quarter of 2023, bringing the total number of consoles sold to 41.7 million units. Sony CEO Kenichiro Yoshida praised Ryan for overseeing the launch of PlayStation 5 amid the global COVID pandemic. In addition, he stated that the device is now on track to become Sony Interactive Entertainment’s most successful console ever.
On April 1, 2024, Hiroki Totoki takes office as interim CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment. Meanwhile, he assumes the responsibility as well as the roles of president, COO and CFO of Sony Group Corporation. The company said it would work with management to find Sony Interactive Entertainment’s next boss.
