Sony creates hype for PS5 commercial and fails – “Have no expectations and you won’t be disappointed”

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

Sony is currently trying a new advertising format – “Live from PS5”. The format looks like a news program, but the field reporters report on encounters with well-known characters from PlayStation games. An ad during Super Bowl 57 created false hope and frustration.

PlayStation has been using an old trick lately to make its new PS5 commercials a little more exciting.

It’s newscast style and the moderators switch over to the field reporter, who is right in the middle of the turbulent events.

The first of these commercials featured many different field reporters. Below is a woman standing in Manhattan, New York, and you can see criminals who have been caught by sticky webs. In the very next scene, Spider-Man sends his regards.

In San Francisco, a certain Aloy discovers an old, untouched land full of strange metal creatures and an overgrown Golden Gate Bridge. You can watch the first trailer here:

But apparently the new commercials are designed too openly and stimulate the viewer’s imagination a little too much. The first film caused speculation about a new Uncharted game (via gamespot.com).

And the Super Bowl film first gave hope, then frustration. The Canadian Instagram account shared the following picture in advance:

So what should one expect? Just a short snippet of Kratos and Atreus blasting through the stadium during the Super Bowl? Or the announcement of a DLC for God of War Ragnarok that many fans hoped for?

Apparently some users opted for the second variant and were then severely disappointed. In fact, it was only a 30-second video that briefly shows Kratos and Atreus running into the snow-covered stadium:

Below the video on YouTube, the comments look accordingly (via youtube.com):

  • That one guy: “Everyone 5 hours ago: ‘We’re getting a DLC, it’s going to be great!’. Now: ‘Was that even a trailer?’”
  • Damous X: “Have no expectations and you won’t be disappointed”
  • Tizoc Vazquez: “That was it?”
  • Although the video was released during Super Bowl 57, it was not part of the commercial for the televised broadcast. In fact, the spot was only shared by PlayStation Canada. However, fans are on the move all over the world today and when it comes to hoping for new content for their favorite game, frustration can quickly arise.
