Hundreds of people had gathered at Södermalmstorg in Gävle to see Rasmus Paludan hold his election meeting at 5 p.m. The police had a strong presence at the scene. It became violent at times when the audience and Paludan exchanged insults.

Paludan was met with angry shouts when he burned the Koran and megaphoned messages critical of Islam.
Two people were taken from the scene when they broke the police cordon and a third woman threw her sandals at Paludan. On one occasion, a man offered to hug Rasmus Paludan, who accepted the hug, but first had to ask the police for permission.
