“Some have asked me about it”

Sweden suffered a heavy loss against Spain.
Afterwards, Fridolina Rolfö received criticism for her actions after the final whistle.
Now former goalkeeper hero Hedvig Lindahl enters the debate.

It was a very heavy loss that Sweden suffered during Tuesday morning. Spain were the better team and fairly won 2-1 but the loss is still so incredibly sour.

Blue yellow loss

The final minutes were completely dramatic when Sweden first equalized at 1-1 late on and then went for another goal from behind just a minute or so later. A lot has been said after the match about how the referee was unfair, that Spain’s lead goal was offside and that Zecira Musovic should have saved the shot that meant 2-1.

The criticism against Rolfö has been about her seeming to take the loss lightly when you see the pictures. But now the former goalkeeper hero gives up Hedvig Lindahl into the debate.
“Some have asked me my opinion regarding the picture of Fridolina Rolfö and Aitana Bonmati – and I will say this. I can understand people who felt sad about the loss and that they couldn’t reflect their own feelings against the picture of ‘Frido’ smiling and that they couldn’t find any comfort in it. By seeing that picture, I mean,” writes Lindahl on X (formerly Twitter).

Hedvig Lindahl believes that everyone deals with tough emotions in different ways and that this was Fridolina Rolfö’s way of dealing with a painful loss.
“Regardless, Frido is not responsible for the way people handle their own inner feelings. Her way of dealing with the tough feelings was to get a hug from a dear friend,” she writes further.
“If we criticize Frido for handling her emotions, where are we going then? People should instead ask themselves: ‘Why am I getting upset?’ Maybe the answer is that you also need a hug and to laugh away the bad feeling”.
