Sollefteå through the ages – that’s how attractive the municipality is

Sollefteå municipality has been a center for work with its ironworks, forestry and sawmills, which led to an increased population for several centuries.

During the 1950s, the municipality had 37,976 inhabitants and was the region’s third largest city, but since then the population has steadily decreased.

Fewer people have also chosen to move to the municipality, with one exception in 2014 – 2017 when the population increased temporarily due to refugee flows.

Future:

♦ 2040 it is estimated that the population will decrease by 15 percent – from 18,602 in 2022 to 16,204 in 2040.
