Solidarity day with political prisoners in Belarus

At the call of the opponent Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, this Saturday, November 27 is the day of solidarity with political prisoners in Belarus. According to the count of NGOs, they are now close to 900. Lithuania also calls for their release, a condition for changes in Belarus.

Send a letter to a political prisoner. This is what the team of the opponent Svetlana Tikhanovskaia asks to do in support of the 888 people imprisoned for their ideas. In almost a year, their number has increased nine-fold in Belarus. Proof that the repression continues and that it has no limit.

Jana Paliashchuk organizes this day of solidarity with prisoners sometimes arrested for simple socks: “ It can be very ordinary people who have found themselves in the wrong place wearing socks in the national colors white-red-white. And you can really get arrested for it.

Nearly 900 political prisoners

In the corridors of the Lithuanian Foreign Ministry, the human rights NGO Viasna has set up a stand where you can swipe a card.

Gabrielius Landsbergis, the head of diplomacy, wrote to 19-year-old Vitalyia Bandarenka. She was sentenced to four years in prison for participating in demonstrations: “ [Alexandre] Lukashenko was not only the instigator of this migrant crisis. There are also nearly 900 political prisoners. By expressing our solidarity to them, we are showing the world what Lukashenko is also capable of doing, and has been doing so for over a year.

The Lithuanian government has set to work on the possibility of bringing the Belarusian leader to an international court.
