King Charles III hailed the “heartfelt solidarity” of people across the UK struggling against the high cost of living, in his first Christmas speech as king.
The king also thanked the “love and sympathy” expressed after the death of his mother Queen Elizabeth II. Standing next to a Christmas tree, he said in the pre-recorded message that it is a “particularly poignant time for all of us who have lost loved ones”.
Then he addressed the effects of the country’s growing economic problems.
– I especially want to pay tribute to all these wonderfully kind people who so generously give food or donations or … their time, to support those in greatest need, he said.
