Societys centennial plaque erected in West Lorne

Four years ago, the president of the West Lorne and Community Horticultural Society, Jim Hathaway, initiated the idea of a Centennial Garden to be placed at the corner of Main and Graham streets on the property of the West Lorne Community Complex to mark the society’s 100th anniversary in 2020.

The society was in agreement. A design of the garden and plants was implemented. In February 2019, the proposed project was presented to the municipal council for approval.

Approval was given and work started the following September, with completion in 2019.

But when the COVID-19 pandemic unfolded in early 2020, the society’s celebratory plans were halted.

But now the plaque denoting the society’s centennial has been mounted.

Hathaway and the society are appreciative of the community’s continued support for the society and its work.

“The West Lorne and Community Horticultural Society would like to thank all our members, the municipality, all the businesses, organizations and private donations that made this a great success,” he said.

“We now have a plaque mounted on the wall of the Community Complex to recognize its completion. Everyone please come and enjoy this public space.”
