The volcano, which erupted last year in Tonga, which consists of about 170 islands in the Pacific Ocean, became active again on January 14. After the eruption of the volcano, tsunami warnings were issued for many countries. The tsunami that came in the images that were reflected on the social media and where it was not yet clear where it was taken was recorded with the camera second by second.
RE-OPERATED AFTER LAST YEAR
It was reported that the volcano, which erupted on December 20 last year on the Hunga Ha’apai island of Tonga, which consists of approximately 170 islands in the Pacific Ocean, reactivated on January 14. Authorities stated that the eruptions at the volcano were 7 times more violent than their activity on 20 December last year.
Noting that a smoke cloud rose from the volcano at an altitude of 5-20 kilometers above sea level, the authorities stated that the explosion was heard from an area of 260 kilometers in diameter.
Authorities advised people to stay away from beaches and seaside and wear masks because of the sulfur smell from the explosion.
According to the news of the Kyodo agency, based on the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA), giant waves up to 1.2 meters were observed on Amami Island in the south of the country after the volcano became active.
The JMA warned that a tsunami of up to 3 meters in height could occur in some of the islands in the southwestern part of the country.
Stating that tsunamis not exceeding 1 meter in height occurred on the Pacific Ocean coast of Japan, JMA emphasized that there was no loss of life or property in these events.
Authorities urged residents to stay away from the seaside in areas hit by the 9-magnitude earthquake in the north-east of the country in March 2011.
