“Social Conference”, referendum… What Macron wrote to party leaders

Social Conference referendum What Macron wrote to party leaders

President Emmanuel Macron confirmed the holding of a “social conference” devoted to low wages in October, in his letter to party leaders, a copy of which AFP obtained on Thursday, September 7.

“In accordance with the rules of social dialogue, this social conference which will be held in October 2023 between the social partners will be opened by the Prime Minister and the Minister of Labor”, assures the Head of State in this letter, specifying that there will be “question of the branches where the remuneration is lower than the minimum wage” and of “the evolution of wages and incomes”.

Extension of the referendum

Emmanuel Macron will make a proposal “in the coming weeks” to party leaders on an enlargement or a simplified recourse to the referendum, he wrote in his letter to party leaders, a copy of which AFP obtained on Thursday.

While acknowledging that the discussion on August 30 in Saint-Denis “did not bring about a consensus”, Emmanuel Macron, who suggests that political leaders meet again “in the fall”, intends to “make a proposal on this subject in the coming weeks which will allow us to continue our exchange which I hope will be conclusive at our next meeting”.

Sahel: Macron a parliamentary debate “in the fall”

Emmanuel Macron pledged Thursday that Parliament could debate this fall on France’s strategy in Africa and the Sahel, where its military presence is contested in several countries, most recently in Niger.

“The exchange on Africa made it possible to come back to the situation in several countries, in particular in the Sahel”, writes Emmanuel Macron in a letter to the leaders of political parties summarizing their meeting on August 30 in Saint-Denis. “The principle of a parliamentary debate as provided for by our constitution in article 50-1 has been recorded, since the fall on this subject, and each time that the news justifies it”, he says in this text, of which AFP obtained a copy.
