In three years, a women’s soccer World Cup will be held in South America for the first time.
It is clear after Fifa, during the ongoing congress in Bangkok, Thailand, voted for Brazil to host the 2027 World Cup.
119–78 in the vote
The choice was between Brazil and a joint bid with Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany.
The Brazilian bid received 119 votes, while the European bid received 78 votes.
Sweden supported the loser’s bid
This was the first time that an organizer of a women’s World Cup was appointed by all FIFA member countries jointly. In the past, the organizers have been appointed by Fifa’s board.
Although the European bid had expressed the support of a number of countries (including Sweden), Brazil was the favorite after receiving the best score for its application in Fifa’s evaluation of both bids.
