Soccer: USA and Mexico release application for Women’s World Cup 2027 – two candidates left

They are now working further to arrange the tournament in 2031. This means that only Brazil and a joint bid from Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium remain for 2027, writes AP.

– We feel that if we move our bid to 2031, we will start to build up to the most successful women’s World Cup ever, says the Mexican Football Association’s chairman Ivar Sisnieg.

The U.S. Soccer Association says the move to 2031 should allow for an egalitarian tournament on par with the men’s championship, or at least come significantly closer.

Will use arenas from the men’s WC 2026

Fifa will invest almost ten billion kroner in prize money for the men’s World Cup in 2026, an arrangement shared by the United States (a majority of matches), Mexico and Canada. Last year, Fifa distributed SEK 1.2 billion in prize money after the Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

– It will be a record World Cup for women’s soccer and one that will further strengthen the sport, says US Soccer Federation President Cindy Parlow.

The plan is to use large parts of the men’s World Cup venues from 2026 until the women’s championship in 2031.

FIFA will choose the host of the 2027 Women’s World Cup at a congress in Bangkok on 17 May.
