In front of a packed Stora Valla, Degerfors stepped out with seven straight wins in the bag.
The home team had several chances and controlled the pace of the match against Örebro in the first half.
And early into the second half, Degerfors’ Gustav Lindgren struck with the lead goal.
For a long time, it looked like there would be an Allsvenskan promotion for the home team – then ÖSK struck. In the 83rd minute, Erik McCue put in a perfect header from a free kick and the Degerfors party was dampened a bit.
Only minutes later it was time again. McCue got a good header again from a free kick, the goalkeeper saved and Jesper Modig pushed in the rebound. A lost promotion within the space of seven minutes.
“We fell together”
– We had it in our own hands but we collapsed. We incur unnecessary free kicks, in fixed situations anything can happen. We lose focus, then we have two goals in the back. It is heavy, says Lindgren to SVT Sport.
Degerfors coach William Lundin:
– Hard to ride on two late identical goals. We do not contact the player who nods and it costs us. We have been strong on set all year, especially defensively. Incredibly sad that we couldn’t have the party that it could have been.
Degerfors will have to wait until Sunday when they visit Varbergs Bois to possibly secure an Allsvenskan game.
