Soccer for all – para sport at the Umeå Soccer Festival for the twelfth year in a row

Parasport is a sport for people with reduced mobility, visual impairment or intellectual disability. The teams in the Parasport Trophy – the tournament for parasport – are decided based on knowledge and ability, which means that the teams are a mixture of both girls and boys aged eight to fifty.

For Emma Norby in MSK United, the challenge and community are the best.

– You have fun together, meet and talk to each other, she says.

Getting fewer and fewer

Over the years, however, the level of participation in the Parasport Trophy has dropped. In this year’s edition, there have been difficulties in getting teams together at all, only three teams are competing.

– Many of those who have difficulties find it difficult to get out, the support they receive is getting less and less, says Håkan Johansson, responsible for the tournament in para sports.

Despite that, he sees the future brightly and believes that the sport will grow again.

– Older people leave and younger people join, it becomes a generational change, says Håkan Johansson.
