Soccer: Dortmund ready for Champions League final – knocks out PSG

Dortmund had a 1-0 victory from the first meeting with PSG in the Champions League semi-final.

After a sleepy and not particularly well-played first half in tonight’s second leg, the tempo picked up in the second.

This is largely thanks to the fact that we got to see the first goal of the match when Mats Hummels headed in the Germans’ lead goal in the 50th minute of the game.

A goal that forced PSG – who were now 0-2 down on aggregate – to go on the offensive in pursuit of goals. Initially immediately through two post shots from Warren Zaire-Emery and Nuno Mendes.

A cavalcade of frame hits

The French held the ball a lot for the remainder of the half, but without creating any directly dangerous scoring chances.

It became sweaty again only in the 86th minute of the match when a ball in the penalty area landed at Kylian Mbappé’s feet and the attacking star lifted the ball over the crossbar – via goalkeeper Gregor Kobel’s fingertips.

A couple of minutes later, the wood echoed again down at Kobels. A heavy shot from the Portuguese Vitinha that Kobels had no fingertips around.

“It feels amazing”

Time ran out, PSG’s hopes for a final place as well and it is Dortmund who on Wednesday night will have to wait and see if it is Real Madrid or Bayern Munich (2-2 from the first meeting) that they will face in the final at Wembley on the 31 May.

– Now we are ready for the final at Wembley and it feels fantastic. It is a match, we have every chance and we will be ready together with the best supporters in the world, says Dortmund’s Emre Can to TV4 after the match.
