Soccer: Denmark cruise to play-offs – finish second thanks to Slovenian caution

Watch the caution that gave Denmark second place in Group C in the player above.

It was an uneventful evening in Group C’s final round. 0–0 between England and Slovenia and 0–0 between Denmark and Serbia.

  • John Guidetti sees the star’s actions: “Must take it on completely”

  • Mbappé scores for France against Poland – then faces nightmare opposition

  • The results certainly mean that all teams apart from Serbia advance to the play-offs – but it will be England who win the group ahead of runners-up Denmark.

Slovenia held second place for a long time, but Jaka Bijol’s 72nd-minute warning sent Denmark up to second. With just as good a goal difference and just as many warnings in the group stage, the Danes’ European qualification ranking was decisive.

However, the Slovenian players celebrated the goalless result against England, as the nation advanced to the European Championship play-offs for the first time.

    – You mustn’t forget that defensive play is a big part of football. Their captain Jan Oblak (goalkeeper) who is their biggest player doesn’t have to do much today. The other ten are doing fantastically well, says SVT’s guest expert John Guidetti and adds:

    – Hat off.

In the round of 16, Denmark will face Germany, while it is currently unclear which teams England and Slovenia will face.

This also means that Croatia’s playoff dreams are dashed (they can no longer be one of the top three in the group).
