Soccer: After the drone scandal: The government freezes funding to Canada’s soccer federation

Before Canada’s Olympic premiere against New Zealand, which they won 2-1, a scandal flared up.

With drones, coaches are alleged to have spied on their opponents and two members of the management staff were sent home – two days later head coach Bev Priestman was sent home pending investigation.

Yesterday, the International Football Federation (FIFA) announced that they are punishing the team with six demerit points and a 200,000 Swiss franc fine.

Now the association is punished financially even at home. Sports Minister Carla Qualtrough tells the TV channel CBC that the government is withholding their contributions during Fifa’s investigation.
