The first book was published in 1942 Children’s book series Five Friends the English author Enid Blyton, who would grow into one of the most successful brands in her genre in the following decades and sell several million copies. Today almost everyone knows the stories of Julian, Dick, Anne, George and their dog Timmy, which have been told several times on TV, in the cinema and in radio plays.
Now the classic children’s book has been re-released as a series. From now on you can experience the adventure – completely free of charge.
Series remake Five Friends reinterprets the classic adventure story
In three approximately feature-length episodes the series tells the adventures of the five friends. In the first episode, George and Timmy meet for the first time and have to solve the murder of a dead diver. The second episode revolves around an algebra machine that Quentin is supposed to use to visit a military base in Scotland. In Episode Three, George meets a magician from the circus who is on the run.
The adventure series was created as a co-production between the BBC and ZDF. As the creative mind behind the Five Friends adaptation Nicolas Winding Refnknown for films like Drive and The Neon Demon.
The international cast includes Diaana Babnicova as George, Elliott Rose as Julian, Kit Rakusen as Dick and Flora Jacoby Richardson as Anne. In addition, stars such as Jack Gleeson (Game of Thrones) and James Lance (Ted Lasso) can be seen in the series.
Where can you watch the adventure series Five Friends?
All three episodes of Five Friends have been available since December 5, 2024 to the free stream in the ZDF media library available. The series celebrates its free TV premiere on the Christmas holidays. On December 25th, the first episode will be shown on ZDF at 4 p.m., followed by the second episode at 5:30 p.m. On December 26th, episode three concludes the series at 3:15 p.m.
