So various factors affect consumption

That cars usually use more energy in real life than the official figures indicate is a well-known truth that applies to both electric cars and traditional fossil cars.

In electric cars, factors affecting the range can be of greater importance, as it takes longer to charge a battery than to fill a gas tank.

A new report commissioned by the organization FIA shows which factors have the most and least influence on the electric car’s range, which We Car Owners have reported on.

Factors increase consumption drastically

Something that becomes obvious in the report is that there are certain factors that lead to drastically increased consumption in electric cars.

Among them, it can be mentioned that a twice as large battery leads to a 60 percent higher consumption.

On the other hand, electric cars, unlike traditional fossil cars, get away slightly when it comes to increased power. If you double the power in an electric car, consumption only increases by 7 percent.

It reduces consumption the most

The report also points to factors that reduce consumption in an electric car.

What reduces consumption the most are regenerative brakes, which can reduce consumption by as much as 18 percent.

You get the same effect if you drive your electric car in a queue instead of in flowing traffic.

This is in contrast to traditional petrol and diesel cars, which often consume the most fuel in city traffic and when driving in queues.
