In a school shooting, the police will work according to a method called PDV, ongoing deadly violence, and their main task is to confront the perpetrator.
“The entire tactic is about the perpetrator starting to focus his focus on the police instead of unprotected persons,” says Stefan Mellström, expert on PDV and former police officer.
The police must immediately seek out the perpetrator to end the violence, which in practice means that the injured in place can only be handled when the deadly violence has been canceled.
– No matter how much it receives for a police officer to pass someone who needs help, you have to force yourself to do it to get as close to the perpetrator as possible, says Stefan Mellström.
Ten victims are confirmed dead after the mass shooting at Campus Risbergska. In the video above you can see how the police worked during the operation.
Just under an hour after the police arrived at the school building, the suspected perpetrator was found deceased.
