The Swedish Transport Agency wants to see new vision requirements for driver’s licenses. Around 1,000 Swedes lose their driving license each year due to vision loss. The new proposal means that a certain reduced sensitivity to light in the field of vision will be accepted, both for lower and higher authorizations.
“We don’t know exactly how many people are affected by the change, but our assessment is that quite a few of these people will meet the vision requirements when the new rules come into force. It is important to remember that you then have to apply again,” says Åsa Ericson, investigator at the Swedish Transport Agency, in the press release.
The proposal will now go out for referral to the relevant authorities, organizations and stakeholders.
