Second in the overall World Cup and three Olympic medals.
For that, Elvira Öberg is rewarded with one of Sweden’s most prestigious awards.
“So only a great biathlete does,” the association writes.
Elvira Öberg really had her big breakthrough year this season. The young Swede took several podium places in the World Cup, and collected so many points that she finished second in the overall.
The huge success in the Olympics
The biggest glimmer of light from the season is still the Olympic championship in Beijing a couple of months ago. It was a huge success for Elvira Öberg who left China with three medals in her luggage.
Two individual silver medals in sprint and hunt start – and she was of course one in the quartet who won the unforgettable gold in the relay. She really took the whole biathlon world by storm and performed at her best during her first Olympics.
Gets prestigious award
There is no talk that Elvira Öberg has been Sweden’s foremost biathlete this season, and now she is winning a really prestigious award. On Wednesday, the 23-year-old was named Sweden’s best biathlete by the association – and it’s hardly a bang.
“During the season, she has gone from strength to strength and stood on the podium 15 times, of which 4 times with the relay team,” the association writes on its website and continues:
“To hold on to your favorite at the first Olympics, go home with 2 individual silver medals and a relay gold, it only makes a great biathlete. And all this at the beginning of his career. This year’s biathlete is Elvira Öberg, Piteå Biathlon. ”
Congratulations Elvira – you really deserved this!
