Customs confirms that over 500 kilos of cocaine were seized south of Stockholm at the beginning of October, a finding that TV4 Nyheterna was able to tell about two weeks ago.
Now the analyzes of the purity of the narcotics have also arrived, which show that the cocaine seizure is the largest ever made in Sweden.
– We have been able to establish that it is a high degree of purity. It is over 80 percent purity, then there is a little difference between the different lots because it is a very large seizure. We do not find any major seizure when we look back in our systems. There was a seizure in 2006 of over a ton, but the degree of purity was not as high, but it turned out to be 417 kilos as it was mixed with clay, says Erika Karlsson, press secretary at customs.
According to information to TV4 Nyheterna, the cocaine was in a container that had been declared as a wine transport.
The container was sent by ship from the port city of Oakland in California in the USA and then went to Panama to be taken to Belgium where it was reloaded. The delivery then continued to Sweden and Nynäshamn.
The cocaine, which according to CAN is estimated to be worth 800 million on the street, was not discovered until by chance when the container was to be handled by a freight company outside Stockholm. This according to sources for TV4.
The customs detective who, together with customs prosecutors, is investigating the giant seizure does not want to comment on the information and is very private.
– There is strong preliminary investigation secrecy as it is a sensitive investigative situation. We are working actively and have taken investigative measures such as interrogations and technical analyses, says Martin Höglund, press secretary.
No one is in custody in the case, and customs does not want to say if there are any suspects.
Two customs officers have sounded the alarm in internal incident reports that they were exposed at the warehouse as they were only equipped with pepper spray and a baton, and would not be able to “respond to a possible attack”.
