It has been an intense introduction to Donald Trump’s second period in the White House, this time as US 47th president. After the election victory, many voters expected rapid changes and that Trump would fulfill his election promises directly.
Lucius Malcolm, who lives in Athens in the state of Georgia, says he is impressed.
– I am very satisfied and think it has progressed a lot in a very short time.
– It feels like we get to breathe fresh air again and may be able to try to put all bureaucracy behind us, he says.
As a retired financial advisor, he is most interested in how Trump tackles the financial issues.
– We have to get our expenses organized. There must be someone who is forced to account for how the money is spent, so that we do not get such large expenses that we cannot take care of our own country, he says.
“Should perhaps have used a scalpel”
At the same time, it is the financial issues some Republican voters mention as a reason why they are not satisfied. But it is also about decisions that have received strong criticism in the United States-such as the efficiency work Elon Musk-led Dogge carries out by the US state apparatus.
– Maybe you should have used a scalpel instead of a hammer. It has been a little too fast there, but I understand what it is they have tried to do. To reduce expenses and really deal with the state waste, says Trump voter Rob Derosa.
Critical to the trade tariffs
Jill Toler Wright, who also she put her vote on Trump, looks positively at much of what Trump has been able to do. However, she is critical of the trade tariffs introduced against neighboring countries Mexico and Canada.
– We shouldn’t bump into our friends. I think we will see how good the customs are eventually, but so in the beginning I would have liked to have negotiated instead, she says.
In some American opinion polls, Donald Trump’s confidence figures have backed down. Several analysts link it to concern among Americans that the president will not succeed in getting the economy organized in the short term.
– I trust what President Trump has said, we have to give it time. This is a trip so that we can turn on everything and it will happen eventually, says Lucius Malcolm.
