Snowy weather causes it in Norway – also slippery in Sweden

During Monday morning, a number of traffic accidents have already occurred in eastern Norway where the snow storm has moved in, reports TV2.

– We absolutely do not recommend using summer tires today. The weather forecast says that the snowstorm will continue into the night, says traffic operator Jeanette Andresen to TV2.

Already early in the morning, two drivers had their driving licenses confiscated after having summer tires and driving into a guard rail on the E18.

Major traffic disruptions

According to the Southeastern Police District in Norway, a 50-year-old man in Larvik has been reported for carelessness in traffic, when he had summer tires and drove into another car. His driver’s license was also confiscated by the police.

In Holmestrand, northbound on the E18, a lorry with several trailers has ended up across the road and is blocking traffic. A tow truck was called to the scene during the morning.

– I expect them to have a busy day, says Jeanette Andresen.

Then the snow is expected to come to Sweden

On Monday, the snow has already reached Sweden. During the morning issued SMHI orange warnings in several parts of the country, where it can locally reach up to 30 centimeters of snow. According to the forecast, the snow is expected to last until Tuesday.

– You should take it easy and not misjudge your ability, it can be very slippery, says an alarm operator at SOS Alarm in the Bergslagen rescue region.

In Värmland, the snow has already moved in, where several accidents have occurred.

Among other things, a timber truck has driven off the road after a collision with a passenger car. There has also been an accident between a garbage truck and a passenger car in central Arvika where a person is taken care of by an ambulance. In the municipality of Degerfors, a passenger car and a freight train have collided.

– There are many who have called in saying that it has been very slippery.

Call to drivers in Norway

In Norway, during the morning, the police urged the drivers who do not have winter tires to leave the car at home and find other means of transport.

– Our appeal to motorists in the morning hours is to drive according to the conditions, keep a good distance from others and use tires that are adapted for winter driving, they write X.
