More than 4,200 flights were canceled or delayed in the US on Monday. Between the states of Georgia and Maine, 90,000 homes lost power.
Officials in the eastern United States warned drivers to avoid snowy roads on Monday, a public holiday.
According to the National Weather Service, a record 43 centimeters of snow has accumulated in Ashtabula, Ohio. In some parts of New York state, Pennsylvania and North Carolina, snow depths reached 50 centimeters in some areas.
It snowed for the first time in four years in Atlanta, the capital of Georgia, and parts of the state of North Carolina also saw record snowfall.
The storm, which is effective in a wide area from the north of Maine to New Hampshire, is expected to accumulate 5 to 10 centimeters more snow in the evening. It is stated that the bad weather conditions that started on Sunday throughout the region will continue until Tuesday.
Snow also negatively affected life in Canada’s largest city, Toronto. Traffic was blocked, subway lines were closed, and drivers were stuck on highways as snowfall reduced visibility to almost zero.
In neighboring Quebec region, there have been several chain traffic accidents due to snow, some highways have been closed.
