Snowfall and wind persist in Uppland

Snow and low temperatures continue to linger after the week. Strong winds and snow flurries are expected to move occasionally and locally over large parts of Uppland until Sunday.
– It is occasionally heavy snow that moves in. In some places it can be up to 15 centimeters or more, while others get nothing, says TV4’s meteorologist Lovisa Svanberg.

This week, large parts of Sweden were affected by extensive amounts of snow and precipitation. During Friday, a lot of snow is still expected, especially in the eastern parts of the country.

The reason for the heavy snow flurries is the northerly winds blowing in from the Bothnian Sea and a persistent low pressure from the east.

– It is the northern winds that pull in over warmer water that cause these heavy snow showers. Then the Uppland coast is mainly affected, says TV4’s meteorologist Lovisa Svanberg.

Local differences

During the weekend, heavy snowfall is also expected over large parts of Uppland, which may last until Sunday.

A warning has been issued by SMHI concerning large amounts of snow and you can count on between 5 and 15 centimeters in places in Uppland. According to the meteorologist, however, it is difficult to determine exactly where the snow will be the most, as it differs locally.

– It is occasionally heavy snow that moves in. In some places it can be up to 15 centimeters or more, while others get nothing, she says.

Still low temperatures

On the first day of Advent, the wind may lighten somewhat along the Uppland coast – but the low temperatures are also expected to last until next week.

– It will still be very cold, mainly in the north of the country.

Due to the large amounts of snow combined with strong winds, it can cause problems in traffic.

– Since the wind causes the snow to swirl more, visibility can be poor in places. It can also be slippery and a lot of snow in some places. But it is mainly the coast that will be affected, says Lovisa Svanberg.
