Plow trucks running in shuttle traffic.
In some places, there can be half a meter of snow and the Swedish Transport Administration is now warning to go out on the road – especially in Gävleborg.
– If you only want to buy candy at Ica, go if you have to get there, says operations leader Markus Tapper.
Winter has set in in earnest and the snow has already started to fall in several places in Sweden. Several yellow warnings have been issued and during Wednesday evening an orange warning began to apply in coastal areas from Gävle up to Hudiksvall, which extends until Thursday morning. SMHI warns that up to half a meter of snow may fall and that there may be traffic problems.
The Swedish Transport Administration asks people to think twice before going out and calls for great caution in traffic. In addition to the snow and sleet, the wind can also cause problems.
Preparing for more snow
The TV4 Nyheternas team is on site in a snowy Gävle where track wagons have been deployed to be able to arrive in the event of any emergency situations.
– It has been snowing heavily throughout the evening. Earlier in the evening there have been some accidents due to the slippage and some local trains have been cancelled. But many seem to have listened to the warnings and stayed at home, says reporter Axel Ellung.
Warns to take the car
Markus Tapper, operations manager at the Swedish Transport Administration who is on site in Gävle, says that they have taken it in properly and got a good starting distance and that they have brought in extra plow trucks and loaders. Although it has already snowed a lot, they are preparing for more.
– Now we maintain the roads, the plow trucks run in shuttle traffic. We have six trolleys in Gävle right now, we will support home health care and home care, he says.
What do you say to those who were thinking of hitting the roads tonight or tomorrow morning?
– If you have absolutely no need, if you just want to buy candy at Ica, go if you have to go there. Do not take the car out, leave it standing.
